Hyflux to develop desalination plants in Saudi Arabia

Hydrochem Saudi, a division of Singapore-based water and energy solutions provider Hyflux, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saline Water Conversion (SWCC) to develop three seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants in Saudi Arabia.

Under the terms of the MoU, the firm will design, build, supply, test and commission the plants in Duba, Wajh and Haql, along the Red Sea coast in the western region of the country.

Valued at a combined estimate of SAR687m (approximately $180m), each plant will be developed with a capacity of 16,000m³ per day and will utilise reverse osmosis membrane technologies to convert the seawater into water suitable for potable use.

Construction is expected to start after the finalisation of contracts.

The projects by Hyflux include a water recycling plant in Singapore, in addition to seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants in Algeria, China and Singapore.

The firm has recently signed an agreement with Changi General Hospital (CGH) to conduct two clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of its ELO Water and ELO Gel on diabetes control and diabetic foot ulcer patients.
